I was sad to hear that Tate Publishing is going out of business. I hate it when businesses close. As a business owner myself, I recognize that every business that closes once represented the hopes, dreams, sweat, and tears of someone. The founders of Tate dreamt of a company that would help people publish clean, quality books for a good price. That is so difficult to do in this economy, though. I get it. I understand.
Retailers like Amazon take such a big chunk that many times when I sell a book there I lose money. Advertising is expensive, so people don’t know about the books you sell. Publishing is not an easy business to be in.
While I hate to see a business close, I have worked with three authors just in the last year who tried to publish through Tate and felt like they were taken advantage of there. That is heartbreaking!
Authors put their heart and soul into the books they write. It may not be sound business practice, but I believe it is part of the publisher’s job to treat that book, the heart and soul of a person, with tender care.
At Chaplain Publishing we don’t just sell books or publishing packages—we make friends!
We help authors navigate the myriad publishing options available and choose the option that is best for them. We help with the things they either don’t know how to do or don’t want to take the time to do themselves. We treat our authors like the valuable, creative, interesting people they are. We treat our authors like we would want to be treated—because we are authors ourselves.
So if you are looking for a publishing company that has your best interests at heart, send us a message and get the conversation going. We would love to have you!
