My 8 year old daughter heard in church that they had Josh Wilson Cds for sale for $10 each. She loves his music, so she asked us for one. We said she could buy a copy but she had to earn the money for it first.
Brynnan spent the next two weeks holding bake sales and setting up lemonade stands. After tithing and splitting the profits with her brother and other friends who helped her, she still only had $7.
This afternoon her friend Maddi shyly knocked on the door. In her hand she held a Ziploc baggie with 3 one dollar bills in it. In one of the most unselfish acts I have seen from a 7 year old, she handed the money to Brynnan so she could get her CD.
In that moment I was thankful for so many things…
- A daughter who wants to listen to music that glorifies our Savior.
- A work ethic that pushed her to get out and earn the money instead of complaining that it wasn’t just handed to her.
- Friends who have raised their daughter to know that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
- Friendship between two girls that prompted an act of unselfish generosity.
- A return act born out of thankfulness when my daughter decided to share the CD with her friend.
I can’t wait to see the smile on her face when she hands over the $10 tomorrow and gets this CD. It may only cost $10, but for our family, this CD is priceless.
My daughter Kiersten and I have been a fan of his for 5 years!! Great choice in music and even greater message in this!! THANK YOU for sharing!!!
